Every Digital Empire subscription is one-click cancellable from your account settings, with no phone call, no "retention specialist" chat, and no downgrade-flow gauntlet. This guide walks the cancellation flow, explains what happens to your data on the day of cancellation and 30 days later, and covers how to request full account deletion if you want your data removed entirely rather than just paused.
Where to cancel
For any of our three products, PixelProof, EntryProof, or TariffWatch, sign in and go to your account page. Each product has its own account page at /meta-monitor/account, /cpsc-efile/account, or /tariffwatch/account. Scroll to the "Subscription" section and click "Cancel subscription." The cancellation is confirmed with a single click; there is no secondary retention screen and no requirement to give a reason. If a checkout error prevented you from completing signup and you were charged anyway, use the same account page to see the charge and cancel, no support ticket required for the common cases.
What happens on the day you cancel
Cancellation is effective at the end of your current billing period, not immediately. You keep full access to the product through the date your current cycle would have renewed, so if you cancel on the 15th of a monthly cycle that renews on the 30th, you have paid access until the 30th. This matches the FTC's guidance on subscription cancellation rules, most recently updated in the FTC's amendments to the Negative Option Rule on ftc.gov, we do not prorate refunds for partial months, but we also do not shut off access the moment you click Cancel.
What happens to your data after cancellation
Your data enters a 30-day soft-delete grace period on the day your paid access ends. During that window: scans stop running, alerts stop sending, and your dashboard shows a "reactivate subscription" prompt instead of live data. Your historical scan records, findings, and configuration remain on our servers but are not accessible through the UI. If you resubscribe within 30 days, everything is restored exactly as it was, you do not have to re-add stores, re-configure alerts, or re-run baseline scans.
After 30 days of continuous cancellation, your data enters a hard-delete queue and is permanently removed from production databases within 7 additional days. Backups follow a rolling 90-day retention beyond that per standard AWS backup lifecycle, then are also removed. If you want immediate hard deletion without the 30-day grace, follow the account-deletion section below.
How to request immediate account deletion
If you want your account fully deleted immediately rather than waiting 30 days, email hello@citationsafe.com from the email address on your account with the subject line "Delete my account." Include the account email a second time in the body so a mis-forwarded email cannot delete the wrong account. We process deletion requests within 5 business days, in line with California Consumer Privacy Act response-time requirements enforced by the California Attorney General, publicly documented at the California Attorney General's CCPA enforcement page on oag.ca.gov. Requests are processed even for former customers whose subscriptions have already lapsed.
What we do not do
We do not use dark patterns to make cancellation harder than signup. Specifically: we do not require a phone call, we do not require you to schedule a "retention call," we do not require you to give a reason, we do not require you to click through multiple downgrade offers, we do not disable the cancel button unless you have watched a video, and we do not add "are you sure?" screens beyond a single confirmation click. These practices are documented as violations under the FTC's Click-to-Cancel rulemaking and under equivalent state rules including California Business & Professions Code §17602 and New York General Business Law §527-a, both referenced in the FTC's own consumer protection guidance on ftc.gov.
If you were charged after canceling
Occasionally a Stripe billing event fires in the small window between when you click Cancel and when the cancellation propagates. If you see a charge dated after your cancellation confirmation, forward the Stripe receipt to hello@citationsafe.com and we refund within 3 business days. This is a defect on our side, not a policy, no back-and-forth required to get the refund processed.

FAQ
Will I get a refund for the unused portion of my billing cycle? No. Access continues through the end of the current cycle instead of a partial refund. This is a deliberate simplicity trade, one flat cancellation policy rather than a prorated one that requires per-account math.
Can I pause my subscription instead of canceling? Not currently. If you want to come back within 30 days, cancellation preserves your configuration and reactivation restores it, that is the closest current equivalent to a pause.
How do I cancel if my card is being declined and I can't log in? Email hello@citationsafe.com from the email on your account. We can cancel manually within 1 business day and will not attempt to collect on a declined card while a cancellation is pending.
What if I'm on an annual plan? Annual plans follow the same cancel-at-end-of-cycle policy, your access continues through the annual expiration date, and there is no prorated refund for the remaining months. Annual plan customers who cancel within the first 14 days can request a full refund by emailing support.
